How to submit a dissertation

Every spring, we ask universities to contribute to their dissertations of a deadline normally in April.

We encourage no long dissertations - if the main text exceeds 80,000 words, there should be a good justification.

Dissertations can only be entered once in the competition.

Eligible dissertations should be completed between 1 January 2020 and 31 March 2021.

The sender of the dissertation must be the external examiner or the head of the department with the advice of the examiner; And the dissertation must be the final version.

The submissions must be a single PDF file that includes the following information:

• a URL connected to the dissertation - the submission PDF must not contain the dissertation text itself;
A justification, preferably by the external auditor, but permissible by another party, explains the claim of the dissertation (about words);
• the name of the primary supervisor and the research group at the university, where research is mainly connected;
• a certainty that the examiners of the dissertation have recommended within the competition time of the University of University that the dissertation should be awarded a promotion;
• An indication of whether the work in the dissertation for publication elsewhere is considered or published;
• the names and contact details of three proposed reviewers who have confirmed that they are looking forward to providing a review; If reviews are not from these reviewers, the thesis must not be considered by the committee.

A chosen panel reviews select the dissertations and after a thorough assessment over the summer winning dissertations.

winners will be announced in autumn in the BCS Roger-Needham lecture in the royal society.

Every year we publish the dissertation of the winning candidate.
