Dissertation Defense and test (Ph.D.)

The dissertation and defense are the ghultinalizing projects of Ph.D. Degree. The student is encouraged to discuss with the members of the study program of both the substance and the preparation of the dissertation in the run-up to the scheduled date of dissertation defense and the final exam.

Ph.D. The last defense and exam consists of an open seminar on the dissertation work, followed by a closed examination of the degree program. During the examination, the student is expected to explain the importance of dissertation research that justify the methods used and defend the conclusions achieved.

The defense consists of an open seminar of the candidate, followed by questions from the audience (about 1 hour). The open meeting follows a closed meeting of members of the candidate and study (examination section). The entire defense and test may not be longer than three hours.

At the conclusion of the examination, the committee agrees whether both the written dissertation and the performance of the student are satisfactory to earn a Ph.D. Completion of the University of California.

4. Announcements
   
   1. Complete test / defense date submission webform to inform SOE-graduate staff of your defense date.
   2. Please create your defense airline announcement and send it at least 2 weeks before your exam date. We will send your seminar announcement to the campus event calendar and the announcement to your graduate program (1) week before your audit date. Click here for available flyer templates.
5. Defense Date
   
   1. At least one (1) week before your exam, you will receive an e-mail with documents required to manage the test. These documents include their current UC-Merced transcripts, preliminary examination results (if applicable), qualifying audit report, approved further development of the candidate form and the report on the audit for Ph.D. Grad form. The committee chair is responsible for the signed report on the audit for Ph.D. Grade form to the graduate staff by e-mail to quality-essays.com within 48 hours after the completed exam.
   2. Your signature page must be transmitted to the graduate department. For more information, see the following information regarding acceptable approvals / signatures. Send the Signature page along with acceptable approval permits to quality-essays.com.
6. Finalize dissertation and sending forms in the graduate department

Graduate Division Acceptable Approvals / Signatures

2. UC Merced e-mail forms should be completed online and forwarded as an e-mail system to the appropriate persons for approval.
