In my previous post, I shared my experience with teachers and students from the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, in which I give a series of workshops how to write college application attachments.
It was my first time with a large number of students, which were mainly under-represented backgrounds. Most students were Hispanic and would be the first to participate in their families to college.
I wanted to share some insights, tips and advice about what I've learned, if other similar students helps fight with their essays.
One: Students who come from underprivileged backgrounds can be hesitant to open and display their turbidity, pain and vulnerability. Many believe that they only have to show their strengths and victories. They are rightly proud and do not want to complain weakly, insufficient or complain.However, the colleges are anxious to learn from the obstacles that students are confronted, and their real stories of distress, and these essays are the perfect place to share them. The best college application essays are almost always very personal.
Two: How many students - especially those who grew up with some hardness in their immediate background or families - the best topics can be so close that they do not recognize how powerful them are.
